State Safety Officer

Location: Macon

Pay: $46,837 – $49,764, or commensurate with experience

Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of district safety officers. Responsible for coordinating and/or performing inspections for compliance with policy, procedures, state and federal regulations and standards to ensure adequate driver education programs, driver safety, environmental health, safety, and/or compliance. Develops policies, procedures, methods and programs on safe driving, driver education curriculum, alcohol or drug awareness programs, occupational safety and health issues.

  • Lead the investigation of all accidents, burn overs, rollovers and fire shelter deployments
  • Review accident and injury reports and respond with appropriate course of action to mitigate the cause, i.e. developing & delivering training, recommending revisions and providing clarification to current policies, practices and procedures regarding safety
  • Develop proactive safety job aids to increase awareness of potential hazards
  • Review Report My Driving statistics and respond with appropriate actions to mitigate trends
  • Produce and distribute monthly safety messages
  • Produce a quarterly safety report for distribution statewide; this should include a one year comparison and a five year average comparison
  • Perform unit safety inspections (1 per district)
  • Perform on-site field safety inspections (6 per year)
  • Create safety checklist for GFC Field Days and other regular activities
  • Develop additional safety training for online delivery
  • Issue Safety Violations when warranted
  • Oversee DDC certifications to ensure that all required GFC personnel maintain a current status
  • Work with First Aid and CPR instructors to assist in maintaining an effective program
  • Work with district’s safety committees to maintain their effectiveness and ensure deliverables
  • Meet quarterly with ALL individuals holding the Safety Officer job qualification
  • Serve as lead in recruiting, developing and training GFC safety officers
  • Serve as primary person for the development and updating of Safety Policy & Procedure Manual
  • Serve as primary person in reestablishing an effective State Safety Committee

    Entry Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR High school diploma or GED AND Four years of related experience. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be detailed and organized. Must be proficient in Word and basic Excel.
