A wildland firefighter with more than two decades of experience has been named Chief Ranger for the Georgia Forestry Commission’s (GFC) Atkinson/Coffee Unit. Jason Bohannon, of Denton, Georgia graduated from Jeff Davis High School and joined the GFC in 2001.

“Through his 24-year career with GFC, Jason has demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and commitment,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Director Johnny Sabo. “He brings great experience in wildfire suppression and forest management to this role, which greatly benefits our local communities.”

Bohannon has expertise in the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment, as well as training and mentoring new personnel. He’s been involved in numerous fire prevention programs, and helped build strong relationships with partner agencies to promote forest health and fire readiness. Bohannon has received a GFC 20-year service award and helped colleagues earn a “Unit of the Year” award.

Bohannon and his wife, Christy, have a large family that includes six children and three grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, hunting, and college football, especially the Georgia Bulldogs.
