A long-time employee and Middle-Georgia native has been promoted to a regional leadership position at the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC). Cochran resident David Brown has served the state agency for 28 years and has accepted the role of Region 4 Manager, effective June 1. The region encompasses 31 counties and stretches from Crawford County just west of Macon east to the Georgia coast, and from Columbia County near Augusta south to Telfair County.

“We’re fortunate to have David stepping into this important role,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Director Johnny Sabo. “His wide-ranging fire protection experience and deep knowledge of Georgia’s forests are great benefits to the GFC and our communities.”

After beginning his career as a forest ranger, Brown was promoted to Chief Ranger at the Bleckley/Dodge/Pulaski Unit. He supervised an exceptional team of rangers and highly regarded by his colleagues for helping them grow through hands-on training, performance coaching, and real-world leadership opportunities. Through the years he has formed strong relationships with landowners in the region, and in 2023 he took on new responsibilities as Fire Management Officer for all of Region 4.

“I enjoy working with a lot of great people,” said Brown. “They put the GFC in a great spot for the future.”

Beyond GFC, Brown has continuously served his community with the Pulaski County Fire Department. Over a 29-year tenure he has served in roles including lieutenant and captain. He also owns JDB Rentals & Services, is an avid outdoorsman, and has helped run a cattle farm for more than two decades.

Brown and his wife, Julie, live in Cochran and have three children and one grandchild. They are active members of House of Grace Church in Cochran.
