Comments Keep Douglasville Beautiful and Douglas County UGA Extension to Host Arbor Day Celebration

Arbor Day is a celebration of trees – how to plant, preserve, and conserve one of our most precious resources. Keep Douglasville Beautiful, alongside co-host, the UGA Extension is holding this year’s Arbor Day Celebration at the Ike Owings Community Center located at Hunter Park (8830 Gurley Road). Courses to help celebrate Arbor Day will begin at 12:15 with activities running through 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 21st, 2019.

The first activity, from 12:15 – 1:30 pm, is a grafting class that will be led by Ashley Hoppers of the UGA Extension. The cost of the class is $30.00, and participants will take home two grafted trees.
Next, from 2:00 – 3:30 pm, Kevin Livingston will be leading a composting course. Participants of this course will learn the basics of composting and take part in hands-on composting activities, so they can begin composting at home. This course is free to attend, and participants will qualify for a composting kitchen bin give away.

The third course being offered is the popular Bonsai Demonstration Class. This class is from 4:00 – 5:30 pm and costs $5.00 to participate. It is presented by Ed McElhenney, Henry County Master Gardener.
The afternoon will conclude with the West Georgia Green Association meeting from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Dinner and networking will be from 5:30 – 7:00 pm followed by “Hazard Tree Risk Assessment and Mitigation” presented by Jeremy Greenberg, Certified Arborist, Georgia Power. Dinner is $20.00 and optional, but the meeting is open to the public, with WGGA members encouraged to join as well.
