The Georgia Forestry Commission has promoted Dublin resident Michael Torbett to the position of Forest Health Coordinator. As part of the Forest Management leadership team, Torbett will bring outstanding experience to the health and sustainability of Georgia’s forest resources.
“Michael’s education and career have fully prepared him for this important role,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Director Tim Lowrimore. “We’re excited to bring his expertise to Georgia landowners and residents who are impacted directly by the health of our state’s forests.”
Torbett earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry at the University of Georgia in 2008. He worked in the field of forest inventory and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) throughout the Northwest and Southeast US before joining the Georgia Forestry Commission as a management forester in 2013. He has served in various agency roles, including District Forest Health Coordinator and most recently, GIS Specialist. He has served on the Southern Group of State Foresters GIS and Storm Damage Assessment Committees, the Statesboro City Tree Board, and the Pine Beetle Prediction Trapping Working Group.
Torbett and his wife, Araina, have been married for four years and live in Dublin, Georgia, with their two dogs, Liam and Ellie. They enjoy traveling and are active in their church choir at Marie Baptist.
