Georgians living in urban areas are gaining newly enhanced support to care for their trees. Seth Hawkins of Rome, Georgia works for the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) as Urban and Community Staff Forester, and he recently earned a special certification from the Society of American Foresters (SAF). The prestigious designation of Certified Urban & Community Forester (CUCF) recognizes Hawkins’ exceptional knowledge and expertise in urban and community forestry. The CUCF certification is awarded to individuals who meet rigorous standards of experience and professional ethics. It signifies a high level of competency and commitment that ensures superior management and care for sustainable urban forests and green spaces.
“Urban forests are vital for enhancing the quality of life in urban areas,” said Hawkins. “I’m proud of this certification and look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with the general public in these urban forest landscapes. Trees clean our air, naturally mitigate storm water, and even benefit kids’ learning abilities. The GFC is committed to serving and helping fulfill all those values.”
Seth Hawkins earned a degree in forestry from the University of Georgia in 2014 and joined the Georgia Forestry Commission in 2015.
