Program Overview:

The WCG Rx Fire Initiative is funded again this year by a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant, GADNR’s Bobwhite Quail Initiative, and partners.

Sign-Up Period:

  • FY26 applications will be accepted between 1/28/2026 – 3/31/2026.
  • We anticipate the initiative will pay between $10.00 -$25.00 per acre (max $4500 per landowner) for approved prescribed burning on privately owned forested land.

General Guidelines:

  • The burn must be conducted in one of the following counties: Chattahoochee, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, or Webster.
  • This initiative focuses on increasing bobwhite quail and gopher tortoise habitats.
  • Apply after the prescribed burn is completed, you will need your burn permit number to apply. Applications for prescribed burns completed between 1/1/2026 and 3/31/2026 will be accepted.
