How do you blow out 80 birthday candles? Very carefully! Especially if you’re Smokey Bear, the iconic spokesbear for wildfire prevention.
In celebration of Smokey’s 80th birthday on August 9, the Georgia Forestry Commission is hosting a 10 AM Facebook Live reading of Smokey’s popular book, “Smokey Bear Story.” The book chronicles the true story of Smokey Bear, from his wildfire rescue to his prominence as a symbol for the prevention of wildfire. The book features colorful illustrations, perfect for the engagement of children and adults alike.
This special event is an opportunity to learn about wildfire prevention and a chance to earn Smokey Bear swag. Georgia Forestry Commission Conservation Education Coordinator Chelsea York will read the storybook with Smokey himself, live on GFC’s Facebook page, Friday, August 9, 2024, at 10 AM. Teachers, parents, and other interested followers are welcome to join the event online, as we stream live from GFC’s forested headquarters.
