The Georgia Forestry Commission has promoted Carrollton resident Ryan Phillips to the position of Associate Chief of Forest Management. As part of the agency’s leadership team, Phillips will bring outstanding experience to the protection and conservation of Georgia’s forest resources.

“Ryan’s education and career with GFC make him uniquely qualified to fill this important role,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Director Tim Lowrimore. “We’re thrilled that he has accepted this opportunity to make a difference for Georgia as we build on our standing as Number One Forestry State in the Nation.”

Phillips earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources at the University of Georgia in 2013. He said he was attracted to the GFC’s mission and work and joined the agency shortly after graduation. During the last 10 years he has served in a variety of forest management positions, including District Water Quality Coordinator, State Lead for Longleaf Restoration, and Georgia Champion Tree Program Coordinator. He said he has also valued in- and out-of-state assignments, responding to wildfires, winter storms, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Since 2018 he has served as Cost-share Coordinator, overseeing the GFC’s forestry incentive programs and technical service agreements with partner agencies to serve local landowners.

Ryan and his wife, Laura, have been married for eight years. They enjoy outdoor activities and live on a small farm in Carrollton, GA with their two daughters, Addison and Josie.
