Purpose
The purpose of this program is to help landowners implement various silvicultural practices that will promote productive, healthy and resilient forests throughout Georgia.
Eligibility
Non-industrial landowners, which means any private individual, group, association, corporation, Indian tribe or other native group, other private legal entity, excluding corporations whose stocks are publicly traded or legal entities principally engaged in the processing or manufacturing of wood products. Minimum practice size is 10 acres.
Forestry Practices Covered
Includes non-commercial thinning, release of pine stands, understory mulching, prescribed burning, reforestation (tree planting & site preparation) including southern yellow pine species or hardwood species.
Pay Rate
A per acre pay rate is based on 75% of the average cost of the practice in Georgia. If approved, landowners will receive the practice pay rate listed or 100% of their actual cost, whichever is less.
Management practices offered:
- Non-commercial thinning of either natural or planted pine stands ($130/acre)
- Chemical release of either natural or planted pine stands ($60/acre)
- Forest Stand Improvement-Understory Mulching ($150/acre)
- Prescribed Burning ($20/acre)
Reforestation Practices offered:
- Site Preparation ($70/acre) & Tree Planting of Pine Species or Native Hardwood species ($130/acre)
