Seedling Sales

by Reforestation Chief Jeff Fields

Georgia Forestry Commission seedling sales began on July 1 and orders are coming in at a rapid pace. If you haven’t had a chance to look over the selections yet, don’t wait much longer!

While more hardwoods are available this season over last, some of the popular hardwood species are already sold out. One new hardwood we’re offering this year is black walnut. We have a limited supply available and are expecting them to sell quickly, too. Our popular Pollinator Pack features a new species this year. Crepe Myrtle has been added to the mix of three, alongside dogwood and redbud.

Genetically improved pine seedlings are a mainstay at GFC’s seedling store. Our Georgia Giants are in great demand each year for their superior growth characteristics and high value/early age production qualities. Through testing, they have proven to produce 54% more volume per acre than unimproved stock.

For those seeking a longer term timber investment, our Elite Straight Loblolly is an excellent choice for superior straightness and fusiform rust resistance. Super Select Premium Slash is also available. These are third cycle selections that boast remarkable early volume production as well as excellent fusiform rust resistance.

Pine seedlings will be shipped to local county GFC Units beginning the first week of December 2022. Hardwood seedlings start going out the door on Tuesday, January 3. To order GFC seedlings, please use our online store at gaseedlings.org. You may also call Shawn Akins at 478-751-3520 to place a phone order or to get information about mailing in a check or money order.

It may be hot outside today, but it won’t be long before the leaves start turning and cooler temps bring on the planting season. Be ready! Check out the great selections and place your seedling orders today at gaseedlings.org.
